What Leads To Allergies?

At some time in their lives, about 40 percent of humankind will have one form of allergy in one way or another. You know the drill – your eyes itch, your nose runs like a faucet and you’re sneezing so hard your nose might fly off, and when it’s all over, you feel tired, weak and listless. Is there a way to escape from the everyday reality of allergies by changing the way we do things in our day-to-day existence? Yes indeed there is. But before you do anything else, there is one little thing you have to do on your end – find out what is causing your allergy. Before jumping into anything, a little good old fashioned research and reading might help. Here are some reasons why allergies act up and what can be done to avoid further discomfort or minimize it:

Pollen, Dust, Mold and Mildew

The four substances above are all leading allergens, or causes of allergies. Different factors determine the levels of these substances on a regular basis. If pollen levels are high, you will be more likely to suffer from allergies. A thorough cleaning and cleansing and spending most of your time indoors could help you avoid these allergens. There may be times you may have to go out, but the moment you return home, run to the shower and take a bath. You would want to wash yourself clean of any allergy-causing agents that may have mingled with your clothing – or your bare body parts.

Heredity

Even if you do not live in an area rich in allergy-causing substances, your bloodlines – heredity, that is – could play a part in the frequency of allergies. A person’s genetics can influence the severity or frequency of allergies, as one person may suffer more than another person in exactly identical locations and circumstances. Nothing you can do about it, pretty much, as this can be the bane of being your father and mother’s child.

Low Immune System

If your immune system is too weak to fight off the allergies, you will end up suffering for a good part of the year. Your immune system may be weak for a couple of reasons. The main reason, of course, would be a lack of nutrients that would normally fortify one’s immune system – if your system does not have the requisite vitamin-mineral combo, this makes your body more susceptible to diseases and illness, including allergies. Another primary reason for low immunity would be mental duress or anxiety. Your body shuts down as a result of mental stress, thus proving its inherent dangers to our system. Our immune system in particular, which analogously breaks down with our bodies. To ensure a strong and effective immune system, take enough vitamins, eat the right foods and stay away from stressful situations.

Despite the variety of studies that have been conducted, nobody has come up with a definitive cause of allergies. It is true, though, that all of the three reasons above cause allergies, or it could possibly be a compound of the reasons above or maybe some others. The importance of living healthy cannot be understated. Eating the right food, exercising regularly and sleeping no less than 6-8 hours a day (preferably 8) would give your body the best defense against allergies.
